We are a voluntary organisation and registered charity founded in 1981. Our main aim is to help older people who may feel lonely and isolated, through weekly visits.
Galway Contact’s Befriending Service covers Galway city and environs. Our befriending service provides regular visits to older people who are living at home or who are in long-stay care and who may feel lonely or isolated.
Our volunteers run a morning club where older people can enjoy themselves in a friendly atmosphere with various activities, refreshments and the opportunity to meet and chat with others while feeling part of their community.
The Seniors Alert Scheme is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by Pobal. Eligible people aged 65 or older are entitled to government funding covering equipment costs, installation & first year monitoring.
At Galway Contact, we provide free transport on our wheelchair-adapted minibus for those who would otherwise not be able to attend our Friday Morning Club and annual outings. Some of our volunteers also help with transport.

The Mission of Galway Contact is to offer innovative and supportive services to older people and their families in the Galway community, through one-to-one befriending, social inclusion and the Seniors Alert Scheme for personal alarms.
Volunteers are vital to Galway Contact, they are involved at all levels of the organisation, working in a variety of different roles depending on their interests and skills.
By getting involved you will improve the lives of older people and their families through your friendship and support.
We believe you will find volunteering to be a rewarding experience which will enrich both your life and the life of others.
